OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKSwill be close-reading and analyzing a short personal narrative called "Mother Tongue" by Amy Tan. Like you have done before, close read and annotate in the margins (see Mr. Jacques's annotations attached for guidance.) Once we are finished analyzing the text, you will begin composing your own personal narrative (see attached assignment.)
PART ONE ACTIVITIES (READING):
1. Whole class: close Read/annotate key moments that reflect Tan's writing style.
READING OBJECTIVES: Close-read and analyze the text to determine:
- the central idea(s)
- what the text is saying about these ideas
- the evidence that supports these ideas
- how the events, ideas, persons develop together
- the author's point-of-view toward all the above
PART TWO ACTIVITIES (WRITING)
1. Brainstorm/Outline Personal narrative (include personal experiences, observations, elaboration and reflection).
2. Draft narrative
WRITING OBJECTIVES:
- Compose a narrative regarding "Your Voice" by applying narrative techniques, such as dialogue, pacing, description, reflection, and multiple plot lines, to develop experiences, events, and/or characters.
