Characteristics desired in each applicant: dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated. This group of leaders will identify, discuss, and inform DPH leadership about public health solutions that can improve the health and well-being of their peers and communities.
The DPH Youth Advisory Council members serve a minimum of one-year term with an option to serve a second term. Council members are paid for their time and efforts through a fee-for-service by being paid for each activity you participate in/complete. This includes training and skills development; outreach and education; communication and media; research and evaluation; and monthly Youth Advisory Council meetings.

Identity & Growth Project
Objective:
Transform a shoebox into a visual representation of my identity and my current and future growth.
Purpose:
Celebrate and express yourself as an individual while also showing your awareness of how you have come to be the person you are and of who you hope to become.
Tools to represent your identity:
-Magazine cutouts of pictures or words
-Printed words or pictures from the Internet
-Colorful, hand drawn pictures or words
-Photographs of yourself, family, and friends
-Color paper, glue/tape, and scissors
-One shoe box with or without the lid
Requirements:
*All words and images must be school appropriate.
Describing Your Identity and Growth
American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is a nationwide non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide direct input into the deliberations and developments of energy policies, regulations, emerging technologies, and environmental issues. We also offer scholarships to graduating high school students who plan to attend a university.
For 2020, AABE California Chapter is offering (3) $1,000 scholarship to high school seniors who meet the criteria. There are additional opportunities for the selected high school students to earn (1) $3,000 scholarship at the Western Region level and (1) $5,000 scholarship at National level.
CRITERIA:
1. Academic unweighted GPA of B or better (3.0 or better)
2. Graduating HS senior who intends to enroll next semester in an accredited college university
3. Pursuing a business, one of the physical sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics field
4. Underrepresented minority (African Americans, Hispanic or Native Americans)
